LEED Certification of the Mission Bay Aquatic CenterGreen Campus, in collaboration with several other green organizations, is working to LEED certify the MBAC by summer 2012. Students are gathering data to estimate the efficiency of the aquatic center and determine the areas that need improvements. Students will provide suggestions towards more sustainable options that address any inefficient energy consumption.
One GCP intern, Sarah Tuley, is working on the indoor environmental quality team which serves to determine the cleanliness and comfort levels of the occupants. One of the main tasks for this credit is to create a thermal comfort survey for the occupants of the building to fill out. Through this survey the IEQ team will determine where they can make sustainable changes inside that will not conflict with the work environment of the occupants. This project has allowed Sarah to understand the in-depth procedure of LEED certifying a building. |
Love Library RetrofitGreen Campus is now schooling Love Library on energy efficiency. The interns will be working in collaboration with faculty and staff on campus to deck out the library in new lighting, timers on the computers, and motion sensors. Not only will these upgrades save energy and money, but they’ll improve the quality of light which will help your eyes out after a long cram session.

Wall Pack RetrofitGreen Campus is currently working on a retrofit of the wall packs around campus. The existing wall packs are old energy suckers and will be upgraded to either CFLs (which will not require replacing the mounts) or LEDs (which will be more costly because mounts will have to be switched out as well). Campus energy manager Bill Lekas sees this as a simple way that SDSU can generate actual energy savings. The first step in the process is to count and catalog the location of all wall packs on campus, a task the interns are presently completing.

NECA Green Energy ChallengeGreen Campus will be participating in this annual competition where we choose a building on our campus and create a proposal to make it more energy efficient. The top 3 proposals get to present at the NECA convention and get $2000 to first place! We have chosen the Music building and are currently brainstorming.
